Satellite imagery published by the Ukrainian open source intelligence (OSINT) group CyberBoroshno (lit. “Cyber Flour”) confirms the damage caused by a June 27 strike on Russia’s Marinovka airbase in the Volgograd Region. The images show that two Su-34 fighter-bombers, actively used by Russia for airstrikes against Ukraine, were destroyed and two more were damaged.
The images reveal craters from impacts and signs of possible detonation of mounted weapons under one of the jets. Sentinel-1 satellite footage dated June 25 also confirms that a group of Russian Su-34s was indeed stationed at the site.
According to Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU), the strike was carried out overnight on June 27 in coordination with the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Special Operations Forces. The target was located approximately 500 kilometers from Ukrainian-controlled territory. The SBU says Russian forces at the base were maintaining and preparing the aircraft for sorties.
The Russian pro-war Telegram channel Fighterbomber, which is linked to the Russian Air Force, indirectly acknowledged the losses, writing:
“There’s no point in commenting on Marinovka. More multibillion-ruble losses that could and should have been prevented.”
Earlier reports also mentioned a strike on the Kirovske airbase in Russian-occupied Crimea. The SBU claimed three helicopters — a Mi-8, a Mi-26, and a Mi-28 — as well as a Pantsir-S1 air defense system were destroyed in that attack.
